Integration of the polyphenol and Maillard reactions into a unified abiotic pathway for humification in nature: the role of d-MnO2
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Maillard reaction involving condensation reactions between sugars and amino acids is considered to be an important pathway in natural humification processes. Polyphenols in terrestrial and aquatic environments are regarded as important precursors in the formation of humic substances. In nature it is most likely that these two processes do not occur separately but rather interact with each other. We report that the ubiquitous soil mineral d-MnO2 significantly accelerated humification processes in a system containing glucose, glycine, and catechol, at temperatures and a pH typical of natural environments. The data obtained indicate the significance of linking the polyphenol and Maillard reactions as promoted by d-MnO2 into an integrated humification pathway. # 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملThe Role of Wnt/β-catenin Signaling Pathway in Rat Primordial Germ Cells Reprogramming and Induction into Pluripotent State
Primordial Germ Cells (PGCs) are unipotent precursors of the gametes. PGCs can give rise to a type of pluripotent stem cells in vitro that are called embryonic germ (EG) cells. PGCs can also acquire such pluripotency in vivo and generate teratomas. Under specific culture conditions, PGCs can be reprogrammed to embryonic germ cells which are capable of expression of key pluripotency marker...

La3+ and Sm3+ - doped Bi2Mn2O7 nanocatalysts were synthesized in 1 M NaOH aqueous solution, via a stoichiometric 1:1 Bi:Mn molar ratio hydrothermal method at 180 °C for 48 h. Bi(NO3)3, MnO2, La(NO3)3 and Sm2O3 were used as raw materials. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) technique. Both of the La3+ and Sm3+ - doped Bi2Mn2O7 nanomaterials were cr...

Under osmotic stresses, proline accumulation is an important response of plants to these conditions. Proline is a compatible osmolyte which affects many cellular and molecular aspects of plant in both normal and stressful situations. Proline is shown to be involved in plant development in normal condition and in conferring resistance to plant under biotic and abiotic stresses. Therefore, many s...
